Floods hit Maidstone

A motorist ignores the floods in Sandling Lane, Maidstone

Drivers are being urged to take care on Maidstone’s one-way system after heavy rainfall caused severe flooding.

Lanes near the Broadway shopping centre on the bridge are badly affected and an overflowing man hole in Rocky Hill has also added to the problem.

Police have contacted the Highways Agency.

Some drivers have paid no attention at all to the exceptional weather conditions this morning.

This picture (above) of a car in Sandling Lane, Maidstone, was taken by Paul Jones, who said: “It’s astonishing to see what people are doing: not a clue for their own safety, yet alone the pedestrians using the footpaths!”
