A well- known furniture store is closing down after 16 years in business.

Lincoln Furniture Warehouse, otherwise known as The Big Yellow Building in St Peter’s Street, Maidstone, will host a huge sale this weekend ahead of its planned closure.

Managing director Steve Swan said that a more crowded market place and the site's landlord obtaining planning permission to build a supermarket on the site is the reason.

A statement published on the store’s website said: “The market we operate in has become far more crowded over the last few years and it is increasingly difficult to offer our undeniably outstanding service and product package and still retain a reasonable profit.

“We would not contemplate a lower level of expectation from our customers and this is why we are taking this action now.

“We are aiming to sell all our remaining stock at both The Big Yellow Building in Maidstone and our holding warehouse in Lincolnshire.

“All furniture will be discounted by at least 20% and many items will be even lower.

"In addition display items will also be available but these will have to remain on display until the close of the sale on Sunday.”

Customers must be able to take delivery of their item by Friday, March 13.
