Don’t be alarmed if you spotted police with guns and riot gear in Maidstone this weekend - it was all part of a fun day.

The event, at the training school in Coverdale Avenue on Sunday, drew 8,000 visitors all keen to get an insight into the workings of the force.

There were live police dog displays, a showcase of the public order unit and driver training demonstrations. Youngsters were also able to get a closer look at the controls of the police helicopter get behind the wheel in a squad car.

And for those interested about what life is like for those on the wrong side of the law, the custody cells were opened to the public.

Kent Police chief superintendent Ali Roden said organisers had been overwhelmed with positive feedback.
