Hundreds of trees in bluebell-rich woodland have been illegally felled.

Police are investigating after several acres off Scragged Oak Road, Detling, was targeted by loggers who do not own the land.

Those responsible are understood to be be selling the timber on Facebook.

The suspects began working at the site in March and have returned on at least two occasions since then.

Fly tipping has also now occurred.

Police spokesman Andy Saunders said: "Officers are investigating the unauthorised felling and theft of trees from an area of privately-owned woodland near Scragged Oak Road, Detling.

"Kent Police was initially called on Monday, March 23 to a report an area of trees had been illegally felled. The matter was investigated by the Rural Task Force but no arrests were made.

“On Saturday, July 4, the victim reported that further felling had taken place. On this occasion it was alleged around three acres of field had been targeted. Fly tipping had also subsequently taken place on the exposed land.”
