An inquest has been opened into the death of tragic teen Terry Shambler.

The 18-year-old, of The Avenue, Aylesford, died after he was struck by a coach in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, where he was on holiday with friends.

At the opening, Mid Kent and Medway assistant coroner Gail Elliman heard the former Maidstone Grammar School pupil, whose full name is Terrence, had “stumbled into the road” after leaving an event called Kandi Beach on Friday, July 18.

He died in hospital from multiple injuries.

The party, which is held every Friday at Makronissos Beach Club, attracts thousands of clubbers and well-known performers.

Coroner’s officer Chris Kemsley said it’s believed Mr Shambler’s friends did not witness the tragedy but added there would have been lots of people in the area.

Mr Kemsley said officials in Cyprus have launched an investigation into the incident and are due to deliver a toxicology report.

Mr Shambler’s father was the only relative present during the hearing held on Wednesday.

The heartbroken family have described the fun-loving teen as “an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to so many”.

They said his death has left a massive hole in their lives.

The keen sportsman, who celebrated his 18th birthday in June, had only recently finished sixth form at the grammar school in Barton Road, and was waiting for his A level results.

In a statement, principal Mark Tomkins said: “This is a tragic loss. Our thoughts are with Terry’s family, and the whole school community sends them our deepest sympathy and support.”
