Is it a bird? Is it a dinosaur?

They may look like something from Jurassic Park, but these strange little creatures are actually baby kookaburras.

They were born at Leeds Castle three weeks ago to parents Melman and Sydney.

They are the first birds to be bred by the attraction near Maidstone.

They may have faces only a mother could love, but the babies will grow into beautiful birds with colourful feathers.

The pair will be fully grown at 10 weeks, after which time, they will be trained and eventually used in falconry displays.

Kookaburras are tree kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea.

Leeds Castle has named one of the baby birds Irwin, after the late Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, but want the public to suggest Aussie-themed names for the other.
