Maidstone receives another application for a home in multiple occupancy

A family home could soon be in use by nine separate households.

The Pineapple Property Company said it had already completed the building work to convert No 28 Hayle Road in Maidstone into a nine-bed home of multiple occupancy, and it was just now applying to the borough council for a grant of change of use.

The application has angered neighbours who are complaining about increased noise, loss of privacy and a lack of parking, with one, Brian Ring, asking: “Does the council not consider nine people to be overcrowding?”

There is no parking for the occupants of the new property, and no on-street parking either as Hayle Road is part of the busy one-way system through Maidstone.

However, a cycle shed with nine spaces is proposed for the back garden.

All the rooms are shown with en-suite facilities and there is a single kitchen/lounge for the occupants to share.

There has been a raft of HMO applications in Maidstone recently, including in Loose Road, in Trapham Road and in Tovil.

The application can be viewed here.

Look for application number 23/503789.
