A man who urinated on the walls and door or a police cell after he was arrested later admitted to officers he'd been an idiot.

Ryan Horton, 42, was captured in the act by CCTV cameras after he was being detained at the station in Palace Avenue, Maidstone.

Horton, of Park Avenue, Maidstone, had been arrested over another matter on June 24 last year and was later charged with criminal damage after the cell had to be cleaned at a cost of £80.

He appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on January 3 and admitted the offence.

During the court hearing no other details came out about why Horton had originally been arrested.

Debbie Jones, prosecuting, told the court Horton made full admissions about what he had done and told officers he had been an idiot.

Defending himself, Horton said he'd had a problem with alcohol but had been sober for three months and was getting help from AA.

He said he was now doing voluntary work.

Magistrates gave Horton a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered he pay £80 compensation to Kent Police for the cleaning bill.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £26 and £85 in court costs.
