The appointment of Jay Saunders as Maidstone boss has been given the seal of approval by the man he hopes to emulate.
Welling player/manager Jamie Day also took over from Andy Ford and, having steered the club clear of relegation in his first season in charge, is leading a promotion push under testing circumstances in Blue Square Bet South.
Saunders was appointed Stones boss on Thursday afternoon after Ford resigned earlier in the week, and Day believes it is a good move.
"Jay has enough experience playing wise and has been with some experienced managers to have his own ideas," said Day, pictured.
"I'm sure he will enjoy it and have his ups and downs. It's a club that looks like it is trying to move forward now and he will stamp his own authority on it but it might take him a couple of weeks to get used to everything.
"I've spoken to him before about managing and he knows if he wants anything he can give me a call."
Day believes age is not a problem when it comes to taking charge - as long as everyone knows where they stand.
"Honesty is the best policy as everyone knows where they stand," said Day, who has played against Saunders many times but never been on the same side.
"I don't think age should come into it. If you have had a decent playing career then you will have your own ideas.
"You will always be learning as a manager - I'm sure I'll be a better manager in 10 years than I am now.
"But once you get the chance then it's down to you and I'm sure Jay will give it his best and hopefully do a good job.
"I hope it goes well for him as we need younger managers coming through in the game."
