Consultation on plans to redevelop Maidstone East Station has now opened.

Solum Regeneration has submitted the application to Maidstone council to build a new rail station, commuter car park, supermarket and shops and restaurants on the site which lies at the end of Week Street and Sandling Road, Maidstone.

It would also include the redundant Royal Mail Sorting Office and Cantium House, an office block at the end of the station car park.

The deadline for comments is Wednesday, July 30.

Sixteen have been registered since it went live on the council’s website.

The scheme comes after councillors rejected plans for an out-of-town shopping village at Newnham Court and following the approval on appeal of a supermarket to be built at the Power Hub in St Peter’s Street, facing the site on the other side of the River Medway.

The application covers a 3.74 hectare site and is for outline permission. To view it and comment visit www.maidstone.gov.uk, reference number 14/500483.
