Barry Hawkins booked his place in snooker’s Championship League finals after beating Mark King on Tuesday night.

Hawkins, who recently won Sky Sports’ Shoot-Out event, continued his good form with a 3-2 win over King coming shortly after beating Peter Ebdon in the group semi-final.

The Championship League is currently at the group stage and Hawkins has joined fellow winners Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy and Mark Davis in the final group which takes place on March 21. Two more qualifying groups will be contested between now and the finals.

Big money is up for grabs in the final group which is broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Hawkins, 32, was competing in group five in what turned out to be a test of attrition for those involved, with eight of Tuesday’s 12 matches going the distance, in the best-of-five frame contests.

The Ditton cueman edged out Ebdon in the semi-final and then banked himself £3,000 with the final win over King.

The Championship League Snooker event is a venture between Matchroom Sport and Perform where 25 of the game’s top ranked players compete.

Each group features seven players with each man playing the other six once in a round-robin basis. At the end of the league phase the top four advances to that group’s semi-finals where the two winners meet in the final.
