Maidstone boss Jay Saunders faces a race against time to find a goalkeeper in time for his side’s crucial top-of-the-table clash at Bognor.

The Stones travel to Sussex on the back of their first defeat in 15 games, going down 2-1 at Faversham on Tuesday to slip to fourth in Ryman League, Division 1 South, two points and two places behind Saturday's opponents.

They do so without injured keeper Charlie Mitten (hip) and his temporary replacement Kelvin Jack (suspended), while reserve keeper Marc Powell is unavailable due to work commitments.

Saunders (pictured) said: "At the moment I am still looking for a keeper. It’s difficult because it is just for a one game basis, so you’re looking for someone who’s either not with a club or trying to find a club who don’t need their keeper for a game.

"I’m on the phone constantly and hopefully something will come up."

Saunders faces an injury headache ahead of the trip with several key players carrying knocks. Baff Addae pulled out of the warm-up at Faversham after jarring his knee at home, Graeme Andrews picked up a groin injury at Salters Lane, while Shaun Welford has been struggling with a knee injury.

Saunders said: "All three will have to be assessed. It’s not a selection dilemma, we’re down to the bare bones."
