A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at Maidstone Crown Court.

Officers were called to reports of a suspicious incident at the site, in Barker Road, just before 8am on Friday, April 1.

It is understood a man was seen on CCTV pouring liquid from a plastic bottle into letterboxes at the main entrance.

The letterbox at Maidstone Crown Court was sealed off

Yesterday a 54-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested in connection with the offence and was bailed pending further enquiries, until Thursday, June 9.

No injuries were reported and the building was not seriously damage.

The letterboxes - which were sealed off - were believed to have been empty, preventing the fire from spreading.
