Maidstone man charged after cars damaged with axe

Detectives investigating reports of car windows being smashed with an axe have arrested and charged a man.

It is alleged that on Saturday, December 16, a Ford Transit and a Range Rover were targeted in Carroll Gardens, Aylesford, and that an axe was used to smash windows of the cars. On the same day damage was also caused to a Vauxhall Astra, parked in Elm Crescent, East Malling.

Further reports of criminal damage have also been reported. Windows at a property in Plover Road, Aylesford, were smashed between December 15 and 16 and a Ford Transit parked in White Road, Chatham, was damaged on Christmas Eve.

Tommy Dunn, aged 26 of Charles Street, Maidstone was arrested on Thursday. He was subsequently charged with four offences of causing criminal damage.

Dunn was also charged with nine separate shoplifting offences alleged to have taken place between December 11 and December 17.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court by video link on December 30.
