Police charged a man who allegedly caused a disturbance while a Remembrance Day parade was making its way through Maidstone town centre.

Spencer Harrison was arrested in the town centre at 11.40am yesterday following reports that a man was being abusive to passers-by in the Earl Street area.

Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to the war dead during the procession, which passed from Week Street, and along the High Street to the Memorial on The Broadway for a Service of Remembrance, before returning to the town centre.

The Remembrance parade passes Maidstone Town Hall

The 24-year-old, of Pelican Court in Wateringbury, has been charged with using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence and possessing cannabis.

Harrison has been bailed to attend Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 1.
