Man dies on a bus in Maidstone

A man has died on a bus at the Mall Chequers shopping centre, in Maidstone.

Police, ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at 9.23am today.

It happened as the bus was pulling into Romney Place. Security staff and managers from the Mall Chequers initially helped to adminster first aid to the man.

A spokesman for Arriva said "I can confirm that a male passenger who had travelled on Arriva Service 6 into Maidstone this morning became unwell before being able to leave the bus in the Mall Chequers Centre bus station. The emergency services were called but, unfortunately, he passed away at the scene".

A police spokesman confirmed the death was non-suspicious.

The coroner has been notified and a post mortem will follow.
