A man had to be been rescued from the roof of his car after getting stuck in flood water in Hawkhurst - as experts warn of a month's rainfall in just four days.

Firefighters were called to Slip Mill Lane just after 7pm, with extra resources drafted in to help clear water from the road.

It is the second time in two days a driver had to be rescued from their cars after getting stuck in flood water.

On Sunday morning a pensioner had to be taken to hospital after his car became stuck in Limes Grove.

Police say water levels on the Little Stour are continuing to rise and they have joined community wardens to warn residents who are most at risk of flooding.

The Environment Agency says it is now battling the wettest winter for 250 years in parts of the country.

Areas most at risk are in Northgate and Willow Close in Canterbury, which have already suffered some flooding from the River Stour.

Other areas threatened with flooding include Grove Ferry near Upstreet; Tonbridge Road in East Peckham; Little Venice in Yalding; Kimberley Way in Ashford; and Alkham Valley Road, Alkham.

More weather warnings were in place for the county today, with 50mm of rain expected by the end of the week.

That is equivalent to a month's rainfall in just four days.

Winds of up to 70mph are due to hit by Friday.
