Andy Ford says he will not walk away from the challenge of keeping Maidstone United in the Ryman League, Premier Division.

The Stones boss (pictured) admitted last week's 4-0 drubbing at relegation rivals Folkestone was his lowest point in football but said he would battle on in an attempt to avoid putting the first relegation of his career on his CV.

He said: "I have never been near the bottom of the table for such a long time in my career. When I took over at Gravesend and Welling, we were down there but we managed to get out of it.

"To be honest, relegation is certainly not something that I want to see on my CV."

Stones, who travel to Tonbridge on Saturday, sit bottom of the table and effectively six points from safety after a run of eight defeats in nine and are yet to win a home league game this season.

Ford added: "It would be easy to walk away from the challenge but I’m not like that. I have got to face up to the challenge.

"I will admit that not everything has worked out for me in terms of some of the results and the success of some of the signings - I’ll admit but I am doing everything I possibly can to get it right.

"I am able to sleep at night because I know I am giving everything and that there is nothing more I can do.

"Nobody wants us to be in this position and I’m doing all I can to try to turn it around."
