Masked raiders violently attacked a man in his own home before tying him up and escaping with valuables worth more than £100,000.

The victim was watching TV at his home in Linton, near Maidstone, when he heard a loud bang from the front of his property.

He discovered three balaclava-clad men who demanded to know where his valuables were kept.

They had reportedly smashed their way in through a full-length window.

The men then searched the house and fled with silver items worth more than £100,000, as well as a £15,000 painting, two Persian rugs worth a total of £12,000 and other personal belongings.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have not ruled out the possibility of it being linked to a string of violent burglaries carried out over the past six months.

They are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Simon Harrold said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim involved, who was taken to hospital after being left beaten and bruised but thankfully did not suffer more serious injuries."

"We are keen to trace those responsible and are hopeful that someone may recognise some of the items stolen or may have seen or heard something on the night in question.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen any of these items for sale. Any information at all could prove vital."

The attack happened on Monday, April 20 at 9pm.

Anyone with information is asked to call DS Harrold on 01303 289383 quoting crime reference YY/7728/15.
