An inquest has opened into the death of a patient at a mental health unit who had Covid-19.

Paul Knight, 55, was an inpatient at the Trevor Gibbens Unit in Maidstone, and on Monday, April 6 was found to be "profoundly hypoxic", which means his body wasn't getting enough oxygen.

The inquest was opened by assistant coroner James Dillon at the Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone on Wednesday, July 15

He was immediately put on a ventilator and diagnosed with coronavirus.

But with ongoing respiratory failure, Mr Knight's health continued to deteriorate and four days later, on Friday, April 10, he passed away at the hospital.

At present, the cause of death has been given as Covid-19 and pulmonary disease.
