Darryl Lawson, of Barbers2U, to visit Jubilee Square, Maidstone, offering a range of grooming options ahead of Movember

As the days get colder and the nights get longer the more rugged men might be forgiven for embracing their facial fuzz.

However, the onset of November brings to an end that little piece of winter comfort, and sees those who can joining forces to raise cash and awareness for men’s health issues by shaving their faces and growing moustaches.

The annual Movember event, which has been going strong in the UK since 2007, requires participants to be clean shaven – an element which is often neglected – before they embark on the charity challenge.

This year, men in Maidstone have no excuse for overlooking this crucial part of proceedings, as a mobile barber will be visiting the town centre on Sunday and offering shaves to passersby in time for the start of November.

Barbers2U owner Darryl Lawson will be setting up shop in Jubilee Square between 11am and 2pm and providing hot shaves and trims with all proceeds going to charity.

Mr Lawson, who has been touring the county in a converted minibus for the past year offering a range of grooming services, said: “I will be offering free haircuts and shaves. All we’re asking for is a donation to the Movember charity. There is no set price, you can simply donate what you can afford.

“I decided to hold the event as nothing like this has been done before and I realised that with the mobile salon I was in a very unique position to take the barbershop and this charitable cause to the people.”

Sarah Coghlan, UK director for Movember, said: “Our vision is to have an everlasting impact on men’s health, and the Movember moustache puts a fun twist on this serious issue. We encourage people to sign up, grow and support awesome moustaches, and raise crucial awareness and funds to address the most pressing health issues.”

To date four million moustaches have been grown as part of 800 Movember events in 21 countries, raising £346m to help tackle prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
