A convicted murderer who was on the run from police for three months has been found and arrested in Kent.

Police have been hunting Joseph Bagley since Sunday, May 12, after he failed to return to a premises in Maidstone he had been staying at.

Kent's force confirmed the arrest was made in Chartham, near Canterbury.

A £3,000 reward was offered by Crimestoppers to help track down the murderer who had served 31 years in prison for killing a taxi driver.

Surrey Police have now confirmed the 66-year-old was located in the county and was detained by Kent Police officers but is unable to confirm how he was found.

He has been recalled back to prison for breaching the terms of his licence and it will be up to them to determine if he is up for parole.

Bagley was released from prison on a supervised life licence in January this year.

Computer generated images of the killer, including what he would look like with a moustache, were released by police a month after he went missing.

A £3,000 reward was offered by Crimestoppers to help track down the murderer but the organisation was unable to confirm whether this reward had given out.

Det Sgt Laura Hendy, from Surrey Police, said: “We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and assisted with our search and would particularly like to thank our colleagues at Kent Police who secured his arrest.

"We carried out numerous enquiries to find and arrest him, working alongside colleagues from other forces, and he is now back in custody."

Last week former Kent Police detective Nick Biddiss slammed the decision to release Bagley in the first place.
