New look for Lockmeadow centre in Barker Road, Maidstone

Coming soon to a Maidstone entertainment venue: a modern new look.
Work will begin at the Lockmeadow centre, in Barker Road, on a glass front entrance to create an airy feel and provide more light inside.
Dead space at the top of the building will also be enclosed with glass to form a terrace.
The building will also be re-clad in stone-coloured materials, with new signs installed to make it look more modern and the front steps will be re-designed.
Maidstone council granted planning permission last month and acknowledged the centre’s look has become outdated.
An appraisal document added: “Its current appearance is somewhat dated with a cluttered amount of advertising and large areas of bland brickwork.
“It is considered in principle, the re-fronting of the building is likely to have a positive impact on visual amenity and the design would create a clearer identity to it.”
Lockmeadow, which is also home to an Odeon cinema and Frankie and Benny's restaurant, has been through several changes in recent years.
In 2012, it was announced the centre was underused and in a bid to attract more people it would feature more family entertainment, including a bowling alley and Wonderland nightclub.
September 2013 saw the opening of Hollywood Bowl in the space which used to house Jumpin Jaks nightclub.
But club nights came to an end in December when Wonderland closed. It was replaced by Gravity Trampoline Park.
Earlier this year Fogo Chophouse, a restaurant at the front of the complex, closed suddenly after reportedly falling behind with its rent.
