Noise from Maidstone roadworks raises hackles

It's just too noisy! So say neighbours close to the Lower Boxley Road roundabout in Maidstone.

KCC contractors have been hard at work resurfacing and relining the roundabout at the end of Hardy Street and Fisher Street - working until late in the evening, but the noise from their machinery has not pleased everyone.

Claudia Pooke from Hardy Street said: "I'm half a street away, but it's still been really loud, going on till half 11 or even midnight."

Mrs Pooke said: "I'm a care-worker and I need to get up early. I'm usually in bed by 10. I also have a young son who needs to go to school. But neither of us have been able to get any sleep."

After four noisy nights, from last Friday, the machines have finally fallen silent.

But the experience does not bode well for residents elsewhere in the town.

Two main roads in Maidstone are set to close for 12 nights while resurfacing work is carried out.

'We can't sleep!'

The A20 Tonbridge Road and A20 London Road between Terrace Road and the A229 Broadway will be shut overnight from Tuesday for 12 days, with work scheduled to run overnight from 10pm till 5pm.
