A former Maidstone nightclub is being transformed into a restaurant complete with rooftop bar.

Strawberry Moons in Gabriels Hill closed its doors back in 2017, but it is now due to be renovated into something quite different.

Maidstone Borough Council has approved plans for a bottom floor restaurant, a second floor bar and a rooftop terrace at the former nightspot.

The planning application also details hardwood doors, a front canopy and the installation of kitchen equipment at the back of the building.

The council previously approved plans for a covered seating area and a bar for outdoor drinking as well.

The first floor will be home to the restaurant which will include a bar, a small stage and a kitchen where customers can watch their food being prepared.

Going up the stairs, guests will be met by another bar area with seating booths and a cloakroom, as well as the toilets.

Up another flight and visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the town from the rooftop terrace bar.

Owners announced a major refurbishment of the new venue at the beginning of last year with plans to re-open this spring.

Moons is expected to reopen as a restaurant this autumn

However, with development work only just beginning, that has been pushed back.

While an exact opening date is still not known, it has been confirmed it is expected to be finished this autumn.

Before it closed 'Moons' was known for having three floors filled with music and dancing.

Open every Friday and Saturday, it played club anthems, R&B and chart toppers for revellers to enjoy.

Owner Mark Wilson also runs The Brenchley in Jubilee Square and Harry's Bar.

Strawberry Moons has been part of the town's night-life scene for the past 25 years and has seen many famous faces come through its doors, including The singing duo, The Cheeky Girls, even recorded the music video for their Christmas single, Boys and Girls Xmas Time Love, in 2002 inside the club.
