A number of bars, nightclubs and pubs have been praised for their safety and security.

The Best Bar None scheme has awarded eight Maidstone businesses with official accreditation.

Backed by the Home Office, it is a nationally recognised scheme for members of the “night-time economy” and aims to recognise, encourage and promote good practice.

In October, several Gravesend pubs were recognised for their safe environments and staff at City Wall Wine Bar in Rochester High Street were praised after being one of the latest recipients of the award.

Through funding from the Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) Safer Streets project, OneMaidstone BID was tasked through their involvement with the Town Centre Task Force to carry out assessments at participating venues.

They monitored and assessed using a number of different categories – including licences, insurances, safety testing, venue management, signage and the wellbeing of staff.

It highlighted where a business was taking extra steps to safeguard their patrons and town centre users.

Last Wednesday (November 8), an awards evening was held at Ovation nightclub in Gabriel's Hill.

Martyn Jeynes, community and strategic partnerships manager at Maidstone council (MBC), hosted the event.

Eight venues had successfully completed their assessments and all scored more than 90%.

Ovation, Source Bar, Bierkeller, Society Rooms, The Market House, Druids Arms, The Old House at Home and MuMu Experience have received accreditation.

Businesses were presented with a certificate of achievement, an information pack of their results and Best Bar None stickers for their windows.
