Two women were taken to hospital last night after they crashed trying to avoid an overturned car.

Officers were called to Hollingbourne Hill, in Maidstone, just before 7.50pm and found a vehicle on its roof but the driver was nowhere to be found.

A 23-year-old woman in a Peugeot 207 was confronted with the abandoned vehicle as she travelled down the steep road, towards Hollingbourne village.

As she braked, a 22-year-old woman in the car behind, crashed into the back of her.

Three ambulances attended and the women were taken to Pembury Hospital, in Tunbridge Wells, with back and neck injuries.

Kent Police used sniffer dogs to search the area for the missing driver but no-one was found.

Patrols closed the road until 10.30pm while the vehicles could be recovered.

A force spokesman said inquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call officers on 101.
