With a clash of sticks and the jingling of bells, St George’s Day celebrations arrived in Maidstone this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, there was a variety of traditional English entertainment in Jubilee Square organised to mark the day of the patron saint by Maidstone Town Team.

Led by the Salvation Army Band and interspersed by bagpipers from the Rochester Pipe Band, hundreds of scouts, marched from Week Street to All Saints Church on Sunday.

Over at Aylesford Priory more than 600 members of Malling District Scouts scouts joined together to celebrate the day of the patron’s saint.

A church service was followed by an afternoon fair with activities including an inflatable assault course, archery, tug of war and pancake making.

Weald District Scouts celebrated St George’s Day with a parade and service at St Mary’s Church in Goudhurst High Street.

More than 230 beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers from Brenchley and Matfield, Headcorn, Benenden, Cranbrook, Hawkhurst, Sissinghurst and Goudhurst attended with their leaders.
