FRUSTRATED residents in the St Peter's Street area of Maidstone are finally due to see positive results after years of campaigning against young car racers.

People living in Buckland Road, off St Peter's Street, have been campaigning for years against young men and women who race their vehicles round a circuit covering St Peter's Street, Buckland Hill and Buckland Road.

The campaign even included a night patrol by concerned residents who video-recorded the cars racing up and down St Peter's Street, the fastest part of the circuit.

Now, the Maidstone Borough Council has taken steps to curb these activities by passing an order allowing only permit holding vehicles to enter the street at night.

The road, a popular location with young drivers for more than a decade, will now be closed to non permit holders between 7pm and 6am, seven days a week, for 502 metres from the Buckland Road junction.
