Custard pie championships

Forty six years almost to the day that competitors first wielded custard pies for fun, they will be back at the same spot trying to splat their opponents.
The World Custard Pie Championship, which started in Coxheath in 1967, will be back at its original venue when it is held this year on Saturday, June 1.
Initially launched to raise money for the village hall, the event is still going strong.
Last year’s championship was also filmed by TV crews as presenter and comedian Rory McGrath and Will Mellor enjoyed flan flinging with locals as part of a new series on eccentric British pastimes.
Rory & Will: Champions of the World is currently airing on Channel 5 every Monday at 9pm.
Teams of four are invited to take part in this year’s championship, with an entry fee of £40. For details call Cllr Brian Mortimer on 07803 909191.
