A spate of criminal damage took place over the weekend.

In total 28 people were arrested across the county on suspicion of criminal damage.

A 27-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of smashing the window of a town centre restaurant at around 4.30am on Saturday.

He has been bailed until Thursday, February 20 while police investigate.

In Northfleet a 35-year-old man from Gravesend was cautioned for using a hammer to smash a window of a parked BMW in Hall Road at about 5pm on Saturday.

A 16-year-old boy is due to appear before Margate Youth Court on Wednesday, April 9 after being charged with cracking a window belonging to a restaurant in Margate Road and damaging a sheet of plastic belonging to a property in Newington Road on Sunday.

The surge has prompted police to remind resident that failing to respect other people’s property could lead to a night in the cells.

Chief Inspector Lee Russell said: “Criminal damage can have a huge impact on a victim and we take the issue seriously.

”Often criminal damage is caused by people who have been out drinking and they damage cars, windows and residents’ property on their way home.

“I would urge people to drink responsibly and think before they act.

“I would also like to remind young people walking home from school, college or university to be considerate of local residents and their property.

"Take responsibility of your actions.”
