A man's been arrested after a disturbance in a Maidstone shopping street this afternoon.

Two police response cars and paramedics descended on Boots, a short distance from the entrance to The Mall in King Street just around 4pm.

The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of shoplifting, assault and possessing an offensive weapon.

Police and medics remain at the scene.
