Police are looking for a man in the River Medway.
Emergency services were called to Maidstone town centre at 4.39pm.
Ambulance crews, search and rescue teams and police officers have been searching the river for nearly two hours.
The activity is focused on the River Medway near House of Fraser and at least 20 emergency service staff are at the scene.
Local people have also reported a police helicopter hovering near the scene.
Our reporter at the scene said: "There are police in ASDA and people watching from over the river.
"More than 10 emergency service vehicles are here including a critical care unit. There's a drone and divers out over the water.
"One witness told me he saw two men walking along and apparently one of them has jumped in, looking to try to swim across to the Hobbycraft and Asda side."
There's a lane closure in place on the A229 Fairmeadow heading north after St Peters Bridge.
There are long delays on the approach into Maidstone Town Centre as a result.
A spokesman from Kent Fire and Rescue said:"Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist Kent Police near Fairmeadow, Maidstone. Two fire engines have been sent to the scene, as well as crews from the technical rescue and water safety units."
More as we have it.
