Police Search and Marine Unit scours River Len, Maidstone in Andre Bent murder investigation

A police search and marine unit is scouring a river for clues as part of the force's investigation into a suspected murder.

Andre Bent, 21, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning following a huge brawl in Maidstone town centre.

On Wednesday morning, a police car, van and search and marine unit trailer were seen parked near the Peugeot Garage on Mill Street.

Officers at the scene said they were looking for weapons in the Mill Pond section of the River Len and were also using a dog to try and sniff for traces of blood.

They were also seen cutting back hedges as part of their efforts.

Yesterday four people appeared in court charged with violent disorder before a fifth person was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and perverting the course of justice. He remains in custody.

Family members, including S Club star Bradley McIntosh, paid tribute to Mr Bent online, while floral tributes have been left at the scene of his death.
