A man has been arrested for a firearms offence after police stopped his car on the M26.

Officers closed the the westbound carriageway before the junction with the M25 at around 12.45pm.

Four police cars attended the scene and a helicopter was deployed.

The man remains in police custody and enquiries are on-going.

A police spokesperson said: "Traffic on the carriageway was slowed to allow officers to stop a vehicle and at present the inside lane is closed.

"All other lanes on the carriageway are open and cars can pass the scene."
