A giant dog proved a handful for presenter Matt Baker on BBC’s the One Show.

Monty, a 60kg (nine and a half stone) leonberger from Hadlow, made an impression when he appeared on the programme to promote Sport Relief’s search for a Top Dog.

The four-year-old is owned by Jackie and Neil Smith and he appeared on the show with Mr Smith. The couple are also organising Dogslive at the Hop Farm near Beltring, Paddock Wood, on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22.

He demonstrated that despite being a giant dog breed he could still be agile.

He was also asked to do his party trick – jumping up and putting his shoulders on the presenter’s shoulders.

Mrs Smith, said: “I have three of them and he is the smallest. He is so good and so sweet. It is his little party trick to put his feet up on your shoulders, but it is definitely by invitation only. They had practised it before filming.”

His small screen fame continued, when his Sport Relief attempts were broadcast last night (Monday).

He will be followed tonight (Tuesday) by Claire Denyer, owner of Saks Hair and Beauty in Kings Hill, and her 22-month-old black labrador Indy.
