Passengers were transferred to another train and taken back to Maidstone East where they were able to continue their journey.

It's understood the rocks hit the side of the train.

Southeastern said: "Because of the quantity of rocks and soil, the line towards Ashford will remain closed until the end of the day. The line towards London has reopened but with a speed restriction.

"Trains from London Victoria via Maidstone East will be diverted through Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. Passengers for Maidstone will need to change at Paddock Wood or Tonbridge for services to Maidstone West."

Passengers are being advised to check their journey before travelling and allow extra time.
