An aging, burst-prone pipe in Cranbrook is to be replaced at a cost of £400,000.

South East Water will begin laying the 1.1km of new pipeline on Monday, October 31. The work will take 15 weeks to complete.

Residents should brace for water main repairs

During that time, Cranbrook Road will be closed to through traffic from its junction with Chapel Lane at Golford, to the junction with Benenden Road.

Mockbegger Road, which leads into Cranbrook Road, will become a no-through road.

The pipe is only being renewed in two small sections along Cranbrook Road. One section will be between The Gables and the sharp bend east of Rogers Wood.

This section will be done first and completed by mid-December. Work on the second section, between Rogley Hill and outside West Weald, will run through to mid-February, with a short break over Christmas.

The company said there had been 11 bursts in the main over the last five years.

Project manager Jeremy Dufour said: "With pipes that have come to the end of their working lives, we cannot predict when the bursts will happen, and when they do, we know how much disruption they cause to residents and road users."

He said: "Schemes like this take time to plan, particularly when factors such as road closures are involved, and while they cause disruption to customers in the short term, they are crucial in reducing the number of bursts in the longer term."

Access to properties along the route will be maintained at all times.
