Owner of Jerk Shack, a Jamaican restaurant and takeaway which closed today, says "watch this space, we will be back".

The business has been forced to move out of Market Buildings in Maidstone but plan to make a swift return.

Andy Campbell, owner of the town's first Jamaican restaurant, said: "When I started renting the property the landlord wanted to sell the freehold but said I would be able to stay. But then he got a great offer and the deal was the shop had to be vacant."

They were given just three weeks to leave.

The previous manager of nightclub Dusk 2 Dawn added: "I understand he needed to sell it and he has given me an offer I could not refuse."

But Mr Campbell is already on the hunt for new premises in the town, where feasts of jerk chicken and spicy beef patties can be enjoyed once again.

Business was going well, with events such as Reggae Brunch and free homeless meals attracting a wide range of custom, so Mr Campbell is sad about the move but sees a positive future.

He added: "It is a shame but we are still new enough to relocate quite easily. Watch this space, we will be back - sooner rather than later."
