A stretch of road just outside a town centre was shut in both directions after an accident.

The A229 Loose Road, Maidstone, was closed both ways after the crash which happened at 6pm near The Wheatsheaf pub.

At around 8pm the accident was cleared and both directions were reopened.

A spokesman from the ambulance service said: "We were called at approximately 6.10pm to reports of an RTC.

"A crew attended the scene and a man was assessed and treated before being taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital."

Police have been contacted for information.
