Firefighters called to flat blaze in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone

Five fire engines were called to a flat blaze last night.

The A26 Tonbridge Road in Maidstone was closed in both directions from 8pm while firefighters tackled the blaze.

A height vehicle attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

There was no reported injuries and the cause is believed to be accidental and linked to smoking materials.

A closure was in place between Bower Mount Road and Bower Place.

Bower Street and Bower Lane were also reportedly closed with buses on diversion.

Crews left the scene just before 11pm.
