Police have warned people to be aware of rogue traders after an incident in Bearsted.

Two men attempted to complete roof repairs to a property owned by a woman in her 80s without her consent.

The duo was seen on top of the house around 10.15am yesterday by a neighbour.

They checked with the resident, and found that she had not agreed to any repairs.

The men left when the neighbour said she was calling the police. It's believed they had not spoken to the woman before going up onto the roof.

They are described as white, in their early 20s, and with short, brown, spiky hair. One was 5ft 8in and stocky, while the other was 5ft 11in and slim.

They were in a white Golf Caddy van with ladders on the roof.

DI Graham Curtis said: "While no money changed hands, we would be keen to speak to these two men about their actions.

"A rogue trader is someone who cold calls at your home and offers services or goods and overcharges you for them.

"This includes overcharging for unnecessary work, damaging property deliberately to get money, leaving work unfinished and intimidating someone to get money.

"Rogue traders are also known to take advantage following severe weather such as floods and high winds to offer repairs at inflated prices."
