Runaway lorry crashes into shop

A runaway lorry careered into a charity shop after its handbrake gave way on a hill.

Children's Trust

Police say the driver had been in the back of an Iveco lorry - unloading at the Moss Bros shop in Gabriels Hill - when the handbrake failed and the vehicle began to roll down the pedestrian street just after 10am on Wednesday, July 11.

Staff at the nearby charity shop for The Children's Trust, Tadworth, watched in horror as the lorry rolled around toward their building - smashing the front window and damaging the shop sign.

The driver - who clung on in the back at the point of impact - was badly shaken but uninjured.

No one else was hurt.
