Traffic delays built up after a car broke down on a busy route during rush-hour.

Kent County Council's highways department said that holdups were on the A249 at Detling Hill.

It was on the road heading north near the Kent Showground entrance.

A tweet from KCC Highways said: "Delays building quickly and currently stretching back towards the M20 J7 roundabout.

"Please allow extra time for your journey."

Police said a broken down car was reported to be blocking the Sittingbourne carriageway at 7.08am.

A spokesman said: "Police attended and the road was clear by 7.50am."
