Inquest opened into death of Stephen Willis pulled from River Medway in Maidstone

The body of a man was pulled from the River Medway in Maidstone, an inquest heard.

Stephen Willis, 35, was seen floating in the water off St Peter's Street early in the morning on Saturday, March 26 this year.

He was described as having no fixed abode.

The road was closed briefly while emergency services attempted to resuscitate him but without success. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem found the cause of death to be drowning.

Mr Willis had been born in Pembury. He was single.

Coroner Patricia Harding adjourned the inquest for a full hearing on June 28.
