Bramley apple cake

Imagine going to Tesco supermarkets and seeing your work on display.

That is exactly the prize on offer as part of a competition aimed at school children to find a winning recipe using the Bramley cooking apple, which is 200 years old this year.

The KM Group is supporting Norman Collett fruit marketers and Tesco who have launched a cookery competition.

They want to find a winning recipe using the Bramley, which is responsible for a £50 million industry across Kent, East Anglia and the West Midlands.

The recipe could be a new creation or a twist on a classic family favourite, such as apple pie.

The competition is open to primary and secondary school pupils.

One winner for each category will be chosen who will have their picture, the name of their school and their recipe appear on thousands of recipe cards available next to Bramley displays in 37 Kent branches of Tesco.

Jo Wren, Tesco’s local sourcing manager for the south of England, said: "Kent has a wealth of great produce, but apples are undeniably truly iconic to the county. We are thrilled to be involved in celebrating the bicentenary of British Bramley apples with Norman Collett by having the winning recipes available to our Kent customers in store."

Entries can be sent in by downloading the entry form - by clicking here - and sending it along with a picture of your cooked dish to the address given on the form.

Entries can also be emailed by sending a picture as a jpeg to Marketing@normancollett.com - make sure you provide all of the information requested by the form in the email.
