Pupils at Sutton Valence Primary School, on North Street, were joined by Helen Whately for the launch of their ‘Let The Sunshine Shine On Us’ campaign.

A Crowdfunder has been set up with the ambition to raise more than £40,000 for the installation of solar panels at the Maidstone school.

The establishment, which previously won two categories in the 2018 Green School Awards - Best Nature Conservation School in Maidstone and Overall Nature Conservation Champion - invited the Conservative parliamentary candidate to learn more about its project.

It is committed to recycling, upcycling and reducing waste and hopes to lessen demand on fossil fuels with the new renewable energy source.

She was introduced to students by Carey Jack, chair of governors
