School's novel road safety project

A SCHOOL has built its own "road" in a bid to ensure pupils know how to cross safely when they step out on the streets of Maidstone.
The new playground feature at St Paul's Infants School in Hillary Road, Maidstone, was painted in time for the new term.
It has already been put to good use, particularly over the past five days as part of a series of events to mark Road Safety Week.
Pupils took it in turns to be pedestrians and vehicles with guidance on situations when it is safe and dangerous to step out from the kerb.
Headteacher Jenny Jones said the idea was to teach children a life skill that would keep them from harm when crossing the road.
She said: "If we can get the message across early on the children are going to be safer as the skills they learn here will be embedded in their memory."
