Overnight snow greeted people returning to work and school on Monday.

While most main roads were open, side roads were affected by snow and ice.

An accident on the M20 coastbound between Maidstone and Ashford closed two lanes during the early morning.

Motorists were being advised to take extra care.

Police issued a warning this morning, asking drivers to leave plenty of time for journeys and to make sure windscreens were free from ice and snow.

Heavy traffic was also anticipated as many people returned to work and school following the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Despite the weather there were no reports of any school closures in the area.
