An elderly lady was attacked by burglars when she caught them in her home.

The 78-year-old woman suffered head injuries during the assault at her house in Staplehurst.

She was taken to hospital after the incident at 11.55pm, on Wednesday, October 26, but was discharged hours later.

The three male suspects are thought to be in their late teens.

Police are investigating and have launched an appeal for the driver of a broken-down estate car who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

The motorist had stopped in Hanmer Way, near to the victim's home in Hallwards, and asked a passerby for the time at about 11.30pm.

The driver is about 20 years old, 5ft 11, clean shaven, with blonde hair.

DS Martin Foord said: “We are very keen to speak with the motorist who is reported to have broken down as he may have seen or heard something that could help us further our investigation and trace the suspects.

"I would like anyone who can help with us with our enquiries to contact me on 01622 604243.”
